On Tuesday, 26 November, alarm sirens will be activated in Latvia to test the system's activation procedure and operation, as well as to detect any malfunctions or disturbances in the sirens' operation and the audibility of the sound signal.
The State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) informed that the testing will take place from 10:00 to 10:10.
During the alarm siren tests, a wave-like signal will be emitted for three minutes, which will be audible for five seconds, followed by an interruption and a repeated five-second sound signal and interruption.
On this day, there is no reason for residents to worry and no further action is required, as it is just a routine siren test.
The SFRS reminds that if residents have not been warned in advance about the siren test, when they hear the siren signal, they should switch on their TVs and radios or other devices, such as mobile phone receivers, to receive information about the reason for the siren activation and the necessary actions to be taken.
Alarm sirens are designed to warn people quickly in the event of a natural or technological disaster or the threat of such a disaster.
If you do not hear the sirens during the test, do not worry, as other means of notification, such as loudspeaker information, will be used in emergency situations.
