Press releases Housing City and Community

If a real estate tax (RET) payer in Riga who meets the conditions for receiving the tax rebate but has not registered an official electronic address or email address does so during this year, the tax rebate will be granted for the entire year 2024. This is provided for in the amendments to the binding regulations on the procedure for granting real estate tax rebates in the capital, which have entered into force.

As for 2025, if the electronic communication channel is registered in 2025, the tax rebate will be granted for the entire year 2025.

It has already been reported that Riga Municipality has just adopted a regulation which stipulates that in order to receive RET rebates, the taxpayer must have registered an electronic communication channel with the municipality - an official electronic address or email. This requirement does not apply to taxpayers - natural persons who are not active in the electronic environment for objective reasons - pensioners, persons with disabilities, poor persons, persons with low-income, repressed persons and persons who participated in the in the Liquidation of the Consequences of the Accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Power Plant.

The existence of an electronic communication channel is set as a prerequisite for receiving tax rebates in order to increase the share of electronic document circulation, save the Riga Municipality's budget, as well as nature and energy resources. It has been found that taxpayers have actively registered for electronic communication, thus fulfilling this additional condition for receiving the tax rebate.

At the same time, in order to motivate other taxpayers who have not managed to register an official electronic address or email by 1 January this year and to further increase the share of electronic document circulation, the City Council has endorsed the decision to extend the deadline for registering an electronic communication channel.

To register an electronic communication channel:
