The birthday of the capital, as every year, will be celebrated with the Riga Festival. This year, inhabitants of Riga and guests of the city are invited to take leisurely walks, to get to know Riga, to visit different parts of the city, to meet their favourite performing artists, to go on excursions with friends, to enjoy the hospitality of the capital's restaurants and cafes, as well as to participate in sports activities.
"In this special time, unlike other years, there will be no big, large-scale events on the Daugava embankment and in the city's central squares, also the fireworks display will be cancelled, but it will certainly not diminish our sense of community and belonging to Riga, the city we wish a beautiful 819th birthday party! ”, inviting to enjoy the festival, says Maris Krastiņš, Director of the Education, Culture and Sports Department of the Riga City Council.
Visitors of the festival will have the opportunity to visit one of the many venues and take part in more than 50 different festivities in the city streets, parks and squares, canal embankment, cultural centres, as well as to watch concerts live on the screen located in the Dome Square.
This year, the organizers of the festival invite you to go on exploratory, relaxing, surprising and musical walks around the Old Town, the city centre, Art Nouveau Riga, New Teika and along the city canal. Unlike other years, the festival visitors will be able to enjoy mobile and acoustic concerts in the centre of Riga and its surroundings - Sarkandaugava, Jugla, Arkadija Park, Āgenskalns, Imanta, Kalnciems quarter and elsewhere in the city. An interesting and exciting holiday program for children will take place in Spīķeri, but together with parents, children are also welcome at the Big Picnic in Mežaparks, the Aviation Festival in Spilve and other events.
The organizers of the festival call on the visitors of the events to comply with the national restrictions and the recommendations of the Centre for Disease Control concerning with the spread of COVID-19. Let's celebrate the holiday responsibly!
The Riga Festival program with all the events will be available to anyone interested from the beginning of August on the website www.rigassvetki.lv. In turn, the Festival news will be read first by those who will follow the Festival social network Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. As every year, also this year, an information tent will be set up at Laima's clock and booklets of the holiday program will be available at tourist information centres and event venues.
