On 22 December, the first electric buses of Riga satiksme startet running and transporting passengers in Riga. The e-buses will start running on bus routes 26, 33 and 57, and on weekends on bus routes 9, 20 and 26.
"All 35 Solaris electric buses have been added to the fleet of Riga Traffic buses, which are now gradually starting to carry passengers in Riga. With the new buses, Rīgas satiksme will reduce its operating costs in the long term. In turn, both emissions and noise levels will be reduced in the city. Passengers will enjoy a higher level of comfort on the new buses, including the possibility to charge their smartphones.
The purchase of the electric buses is part of the European Union Cohesion Fund co-financed project "Purchase of electric buses for Riga" (No 4.5.1.2/22/I/002). The total project cost is estimated at EUR 19.18 million. The total amount of the Cohesion Fund co-financing is EUR 16.06 million.
As previously reported, Solaris Bus & Coach Sp. z o.o. was awarded the contract for the supply of electric buses and spare parts to Riga Satiksme.
