On Monday, 25 November, at a meeting of the Traffic and Transport Committee, the deputies decided to extend the deadline for the 100% discount for Ukrainian residents on public transport in Riga until 30 June 2025.
In order to receive a discounted ticket rate, Ukrainian residents must be registered at the Riga Support Centre for Ukrainian residents and receive a discounted ticket rate in accordance with the procedure established by Riga Traffic.
Taking into account the statistics on the number of travel registrations for Ukrainian residents in the Riga Support Centre for Ukrainian residents for the period from January to September 2024, it is estimated that the number of travel registrations could reach 1.8 million.
The issue will still be discussed at a meeting of the Riga City Council.
It has already been reported that the Riga City Council had submitted for public consultation a draft regulation providing for the extension of the right to receive a discounted travel fare on Riga's public transport network for Ukrainian residents. The public consultation was open until 20 November, during which time no public suggestions, objections or comments were received.
