From January 17, it is forbidden for people to stay on the ice of water bodies and the coastal area water in the administrative territory of Riga.
Given the current weather conditions and meteorological forecasts, it is possible that the layer of ice covering water bodies in the administrative territory of Riga may become fragile and that venturing out on frozen water bodies could be dangerous.
The period of increased danger on the ice of Riga's bodies of water shall be determined by the Executive Director of Riga City Council. The Municipal Police shall control the enforcement of this Order.
Liability for staying on ice is laid down in the Law on Administrative Penalties for Offences in the Field of Administration, Public Order, and Use of the Official Language. Violations are punishable by a warning or a fine of up to €100.
