Starting on 25 August, the municipal government of Riga will set up a fan zone broadcasting the Basketball World Cup Latvian national team’s matches in the Esplanāde park. The broadcasts will include performances by popular Latvian DJs and a live TV3 studio.
A basketball fan zone with a large LED cube screen and a live TV3 sports studio will be set up at the Esplanāde. There will be sellers offering snacks, refreshing drinks, and souvenirs.
Popular Latvian DJs will take care of the atmosphere in the park between 11:00 and 20:00 on the days of the Latvian national team games: DJ Gustavito on 25 August, DJ Magnuss Eriņš on 27 August, and DJ Toms Grēviņš on 29 August. There will also be broadcasts of other national team games at the Esplanāde, to take place until 3 September.
The TV3 expert studio will operate at the Esplanāde on the days of Latvian national team games, with presenter Renārs Zeltiņš, basketball coach Mārtiņš Gulbis, and basketball commentator Raimonds Zeps analysing the Latvian national team’s performance. Various guests will also be invited to the studio.
- The Esplanāde broadcasts will cover the Latvian national team’s games with:
- Lebanon on Friday, 25 August, at 12:15;
- France on Sunday, 27 August, at 16:30;
- Canada on Tuesday, 29 August, at 16:30;
- as well as any further matches whose dates will be announced once the first round of the championship is over.
The Latvian men’s national basketball team was found to be Latvia’s best sports team in 2022, won the right to participate in the Basketabll World Cup finals for the first time ever in 2023. Many fans are going to Indonesia to support the team in person, but there will be even more fans rooting for our players in front of their TV screens and in public broadcast zones.
