From 5 to 9 October, Riga will host the autumn phase of the Namejs 2022 military training cycle, during which soldiers and the National Guard will conduct practical exercises on defence operations in the city.
The training, which will also take place in Bauska, Ķekava, Mārupe, Ropaži and Salaspils municipalities, will be attended by members of the 1st Riga Brigade of the National Guard, who will continue to develop their military skills in urban and rural areas in cooperation with NATO partners from the USA, Denmark and Lithuania.
During the training in the city of Riga, the movement of soldiers, national guardsmen and military vehicles is planned in the following time periods and neighbourhoods:
- on October 5, from 16.00 to 20.00 in the Vecmīlgrāvis neighbourhood;
- on October 7, from 07.00 to 22.00 in Jugla, Čiekurkalns, Mežciems, Trīsciems, Jaunciems, Vecmīlgrāvis, Sarkandaugava, Pētersala - Andrejsala, Skanste, Centre neighbourhoods;
- on October 8, from 08.00 to 22.00 in Vecmīlgrāvis, Mežciems, Teika, Čiekurkalns, Grīziņkalns, Brasa, Sarkandaugava neighbourhoods;
- on October 9 from 07.00 to 12.00 in Sarkandaugava, Pētersala - Andrejsala neighbourhoods.
On October 8, temporary traffic restrictions are planned in Salaspils on the A6 and in Bauska municipality near Valle on the P73 as part of the training. The involvement of the State Police in the organisation of traffic during the training is planned.
In order to strengthen and improve civil and military cooperation, the military exercise will bring together state and local authorities, as well as representatives from private sector companies and organisations, providing various types of support, thus strengthening the comprehensive national defence system in Latvia.
Within the framework of the military exercise Namejs in 2021, the 1st Riga Brigade of the National Guard and the Riga City Civil Protection Commission organised the table-top training exercise to promote military exercise planning and interoperability of civilian resources in a crisis situation. This year, we plan to continue and improve military and civilian cooperation in crisis management.
On October 6, training of the 1st Riga Brigade of the National Guard and the Riga City Cooperation Area Civil Protection Commission will be held with the aim of joint planning and practical implementation of the deployment of anti-mobility obstacles and mobility of the exercise participants. Riga Municipality LLC Rīgas satiksme will provide support with anti-mobility barriers in Jugla district on October 8, LLC Rīgas meži will provide anti-mobility barriers in Daugmale district, while mobility requests in Riga city will be supported by LLC Rīgas satiksme.
