The comprehensive national defence training exercise "Namejs 2024" is taking place across Latvia until 8 October. On Monday, 16 September, the Riga Civil Defence Commission (CDC) will hold a meeting during the training, in which the CDC will be introduced to the situation and different situations will be played out in a table-top exercise format. From 18 September to 22 September, the 1st Riga Brigade of the National Guard will conduct an active phase, during which increased movement of soldiers and military equipment will be observed in the brigade's area of responsibility, including Riga, Bauska region, Kekava region, Ogre region, Tome district and Ropazi region, Zakumuiza area.
For the attention of residents! During the training, soldiers and military equipment will be seen moving in Riga, especially in the neighbourhoods of Voleri, Daugavgriva, Agenskalns, Tornakalns, Kundzinsala, Sarkandaugava, Ciekurkalns, Teika, Darzciems and Latgale suburbs Only training ammunition and combat simulation equipment that makes noise but does not endanger human health and life or damage the environment will be used for training outside military ranges. Fire safety and nature protection requirements will be observed during the comprehensive national defence training "Namejs 2024". Training will take place in pre-approved areas.
During the training, the National Guard and soldiers will be trained to be ready to perform national defence tasks and protect objects of national importance in cooperation with the State Fire and Rescue Service, State Environmental Service, Riga Municipal Police, State Police, Emergency Medical Aid Service, SIA “Bauskas slimnīca", SIA “Rīgas 2. slimnīca", SIA “Traumatoloģijas un Ortopēdijas slimnīca”, SIA “Paula Stradiņa klīniskās universitātes slimnīca”, the Freeport of Riga Authority, SIA “Rīgas meži”, SIA “Rīgas satiksme”, the Riga Municipality and the State Border Guard.
The National Guard does not discriminate by nationality, education, specialty or experience. The applicant must be a Latvian citizen aged 18 or over, have at least intermediate (B1) level knowledge of the national language, be in good health and have a basic level of physical fitness.
