The public ice-skating rink in Esplanade is officially opened. Riga residents and visitors will be able to enjoy the winter activities until 1 March. Equipment rental is also available.

"The Riga Christmas Market is already recognised as one of the most beautiful and interesting in Europe. Now it's time for Riga's ice-skating rink to win over visitors and to be recognised alongside ice-skating rinks in other European cities such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Helsinki, London and elsewhere. This year Riga is renewing the tradition and once again creating a city ice-skating rink where everyone can skate - here's to lots of visitors, sharp skates and safe skating!" says Vilnis Ķirsis, Chairperson of Riga City Council.

The opening ceremony was attended by Vilnis Ķirsis, the Chairperson of Riga City Council, and Laima Geikina, the Chairperson of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee of Riga City Council.

During the event, Riga Hockey School students and coach Oļegs Sorokins inaugurated the ice-skating rink by skating the first lap.

The ice-skating rink will be open until 1 March on the Esplanade in front of the J. Rainis monument around the rose bed. It is planned that the ice-skating rink in Esplanade will be open for the next three seasons (2024/2025, 2025/2026 and 2026/2027). Meteorological conditions will be a major factor influencing the operating mode of the ice-skating rink.

The ice-skating rink is free of charge for those with personal equipment, but skates and ancillary equipment can be rented for a fee. The rental cost per pair of skates is EUR 2.49 per hour for adults and EUR 2.00 for children. Skates for public skating can be rented at the ice-skating rink.

The ice-skating rink also has heated changing rooms and toilets.

The ice-skating rink will be open every weekday from 11:00 to 22:00 and on weekends from 09:00 to 22:00. Please note that the ice-skating rink will be serviced from 13:00 to 14:00, from 16:00 to 17:00 and from 19:00 to 20:00. During this time the ice-skating rink will be closed to the public.

The ice-skating rink area will be decorated with decorations, and closer to Christmas, the ice-skating rink will be even more colourfully decorated to create a more festive mood.
