On Friday, November 27, repeatedly signed the agreement with the public benefit organisation - the association “SHAMIR” - on the use of the area between Moscow Street, Turgeņeva Street and General Radziņa Krastmala in order to support for activities of the association, including contributing to the preservation of the commemorations of victims of the Holocaust tragedy, as well as the further development of the Riga Ghetto and the Latvian Holocaust Museum.
The contract is entered into on the basis of a decision taken by the Riga City Council, which provides for the transfer of the real estate for free use for a period of time while the association has the status of a public benefit organisation, or until the moment when the property will be necessary to ensure the functions of the local government, but not longer than 10 years. The balance sheet value of this real estate now is more than 600 thousand euros.
The decision also states that the association provides for the management and maintenance of this property for its own resources, as well as pays the real estate tax. The association “SHAMIR” is obliged to insure for its own funds the constructions transferred to it against all types of risks, there will be a number of prohibitions, too. For example, it is prohibited to use this property for other purposes, or to transfer it to other persons, as well as to perform construction works without consent.
