On Monday, 9 September, Vilnis Ķirsis, Chairman of the Riga City Council, ad Linda Ozola, Deputy Chairman of the Riga City Council, met with Ion Ceban, Mayor of Moldova’s capital – Chișinău, to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two cities. Following the meeting, the mayors of both capitals signed a letter of intent, which includes backing Moldova’s integration into the European Union.
The agreement outlines that both cities will aim to share knowledge, foster trust and friendship, exchange best practices in policy and city governance, and develop cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly in education, human resources, and cultural and artistic development.
Further, it includes plans to exchange best practices in European integration initiatives and policies, thereby actively supporting Moldova’s European integration process at the municipal level.
The capitals of Latvia and Moldova will also encourage their entrepreneurs to strengthen economic ties and build closer business relationships.
During the visit, the delegation from Moldova’s capital also paid a visit to the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency and took part in several discussions on educational projects and the promotion of start-up activities.
