In July 2025, Riga will be come an international speedway centre hosting final races of both the European and World Youth Speedway Championship, to be supported also by the Riga local government.
Final races of the European Youth Speedway Championship (125 cc) and the World Youth Speedway Championship (125 cc) in Riga will be organised by the association “Riga Speedway Club”.
Municipal co-funding in the amount of 15,105 euro will be assigned to support the final race of the European Youth Speedway Championship. Co-funding account for 67.72% of the total estimate of the European Youth Speedway Championship. Whereas, to support the final race of the World Youth Speedway Championship, municipal co-funding in the amount of 11,745 euro will be assigned. Co-funding account for 64.91% of the total estimate of the European Youth Speedway Championship. Funding is intended to cover the organisational expenses of the event.
Final races of the European Youth Speedway Championship will take place on 12 July 2025, final races of the World Youth Speedway Championship - on 13 July 2025.
The competition will bring together 25 racers aged from 10 to 16 from approximately 15 countries, including Poland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic and other.
The association “Riga Speedway Club” has been actively working on the development of speedway and preservation of traditions in Riga for eight years, especially promoting involvement of youth in technical sports.
Participating in the race will be students of the Riga Municipal Children and Youth Centre “Auseklis”, including the young talents Dario Rožkalns and European Speedway Vice-Champion 2024 – Andžejs Smuļkēvičs.
In 2025, for the first time ever, racers of Riga will compete at their home stadium for the European and World individual prizes. This race serves as a significant platform for the demonstration of the talents and achievements of the young racers.
The decision was made at the meeting of the Riga City Council on 16 April.
