From next Friday, July 17, Riga City Municipality as an experiment will implement the idea of the city's summer street for the first time, allocating Terbatas Street for one month for pedestrians, cyclists, traders and with a diverse cultural program on weekends.
Traffic on Terbatas Street will be partially closed from July 15 at 21.45 till August 16 at 21.00 in the section from Elizabetes Street to the entrance to Vidzeme market. It will be possible to cross the street with some exceptions.
Along Terbatas Street, green recreation areas and cafe terraces will be set up for the well-being of the residents, there will be places with the opportunity to enjoy country delicacies from Latvian home producers and experience a diverse cultural program for children and adults on weekends. In addition, free Wi-Fi will be provided in all the closed section of the street. The cultural program will be published on the municipal website www.riga.lv
For the purposes of traffic reorganization, to drive in the street it will be possible only the residents of the houses an only to their courtyards. Drivers who have purchased a monthly subscription to the paid municipal parking lot or a resident's card will have to park their cars free of charge in the municipal paid parking lots on the adjacent streets.
The trolleybus route No.1 will be closed for the duration of the initiative, therefore residents are invited to use transport on the Brivibas and Kr. Barona streets.
Riga City Municipality invites the existing entrepreneurs and other traders of Terbatas Street to participate in the activation of the street in order to mitigate the economic and social consequences of the crisis together and create a safe and open environment for the city residents and guests.
